Lunch in Providence, RI
webmaster in xn--fjqr0i.com edit
  • i will be driving through Providence next week on my way back to BOS. I have never been to Providence, so my lunch stop there will have to double as sight-seeing. Should I eat around the Brown campus? I don't need anything fancy - a bar&grill would be fine - location is more important for my after lunch walk.

  • I would highly recommend a trip to Federal Hill, sort of a Little Italy. Really great food there - lots of restaurants.

Too late for the OP but perhaps someone else may benefit. Many of those restaurants are "cash only" establishments but if you love Italian, it's the place to be.

Thayer Street is my preferred place, although parking is metered. Not hard to find in the area but on Thayer itself can be hard to find. Kabob and Curry is good if you like Indian and there's a conveniently-located Ben & Jerry's at the uphill end of the block (and half a block to the right).

  • Also several little cafes and such on a few blocks on and around Thayer Street near Brown.

  • Also a bit late, but same reason:

If you like Italian food, Atwells Avenue is the heart of the Italian area (think Boston's North End, etc.). That's the place to go for it. Walk down the street and stop into any of the Italian restaurants that tempts you. (They all will, and you won't see any other kind.)

Nearer to Brown, a couple of blocks of Thayer St., is Rue de l'Espoir: a nice French bistro at 99 Hope St. (Pun intended - by them, not by me.)
