How effective is numbing cream?

  • Does it make you insensitive to pain when you take a vaccination or have a tattoo?

    Let me say I'm not afraid of having a vaccination and I'm not thinking of having a tattoo.

    I would just like to know how effective numbing cream is.


  • The cream that is available over the counter is not very effective. It helps a little for burns and stings, but not completly. It is only temporary and instructions should be followed.pp


  • The prescription strength version works quite well (I'm sorry I can't think of the exact name of it at the moment). You have to put it on for about an hour before the injection and keep it covered with saran wrap. It does numb the skin really well.
